| Determine which students are eligible for Sigma Tau Delta. | Review the requirements for membership. The Registrar’s Office or your department should be able to provide a list of students who meet the membership requirements. |
| Send a letter of invitation and application for membership, and information about Sigma Tau Delta to eligible students. OR, consider holding an informational meeting to introduce potential new members to Sigma Tau Delta. | Establish a deadline for students to return their application, unofficial transcript, the one-time $60 induction fee, and local dues, if applicable. | Some chapters charge local dues to help cover chapter expenses. |
| Enroll new members online in Write Away. | Write Away is the online chapter management system that stores all your chapter membership information. It is still important, however, to print a copy of the member list for the chapter records. Enroll new members via Classic Enrollment or Invitation Enrollment. |
| Pay the $60 induction fee for each new member. | Write Away accepts credit card payments. If your chapter is unable to pay by credit card, follow the instructions to enroll new members and send payment by university or chapter check. Do not send student checks. |
| Certificates | Certificates will be emailed from sigmatd@niu.edu to the Lead Advisor of record generally within three business days; please ensure your Advisor list is up to date, especially for your Lead Advisor. If you don’t see the email, please also check your spam folder. Certificates need to be signed by the Chapter Advisor. Pins will follow by USPS to the Lead Advisor. We cannot ship pins via FedEx or UPS. |
| Plan an induction ceremony for new members. | Each chapter is required to have at least one induction a year; some chapters elect to have more. Ideas for planning an induction ceremony are found in Chapter Activities: Ceremonies and Formal Events. |
