Audrey Ball is the new High Plains Region Student Representative from Fort Hays State University. She is a senior finishing up her English Major and Communications Minor with a certificate in Grant Writing. Audrey enjoys wearing her socks inside out (to avoid the seam!), hairless cats, and room-temperature Red Bull. Currently, you can find her either watching the newest season of Love Island or spending time with friends.
1. I chose to become an English Major because I loved reading and writing growing up, so I figured there was no reason to fix something that wasn’t broken.
2. My favorite part of being an English Major is learning about writing conventions! I think they’re silly, and I like following the rules!
3. The last book I read was Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
4. My favorite book is Dracula by Bram Stoker. We had to read it in high school, and I loved it! The epistolary style made me feel like I was snooping around and gossiping!
5. A book character I identify with is I yearn to be Fancy Nancy from the series by Jane O’Connor, but I fear I’m more Amelia Bedelia from Peggy Parish’s series.
6. The last book I bought was a textbook. I don’t have the space to store books right now, but I love to support my local library!
7. My favorite book to movie adaptation is Pride and Prejudice (2005) adapted from Jane Austen’s book. My friend is obsessed with the book and the movie, so I read the book specifically so we could watch the movie for Valentine’s Day together.
8. I’m more of a reader.
9. My favorite style of writing is YouTube video essays. I think they make culturally relevant topics easy to digest for a wide audience, which encourages more interesting discussion. I love applying an analytical lens to recent movies, pop culture trends, and social phenomena.
10. My go-to children’s book is any of the Dork Diaries books by Rachel Renée Russell.
11. My favorite childhood memory is playing with the doll house that my brother made for me. It had 3 floors and was filled with tons of miniature furniture!

12. Growing up, I was sure I would be an archaeologist. I love dinosaurs, and I would watch dinosaur documentaries on repeat.
13. My first job was at my old high school as an IT Assistant.
14. My dream job is probably a technical writer, but recently I’ve thought about becoming a librarian.
15. I like to spend my free time doing crocheting, watching reality TV shows, and going for walks.

16. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is Thailand.
17. The literary place I’d most like to visit is either Bath or Whitby, England!
18. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in the Pacific Northwest or the New England area.
19. If I was stranded on a desert island, the three things I would bring with me are a water purifier, sunscreen, and bug spray.
20. What is one song you could listen to on repeat? I Don’t Care If You’re Contagious by Pierce The Veil.
21. The best gift I ever received was a 10-piece glass food storage container set.
22. The best gift I’ve ever given is a Minecraft crafting table LEGO set. I got it for a steal on eBay after an intense bidding war!
23. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up my meal prep for the week!
24. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be the “Eat Me” cake and “Drink Me” potion from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
25. The author (dead or alive) I’d most like to spend a day with is Junji Ito.
