Brooke Foster (she/her) is the Eastern Region Student Representative for Sigma Tau Delta. She is a senior at Rider University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing, a minor in Social Media Strategies, and a certificate in Publishing and Professional Writing. In her free time, you can find Brooke crossing books of her TBR list (well over 30 books to go!) and binge-watching Stranger Things on Netflix (again). She is also a self-proclaimed theater kid with a love for musicals; some of her favorites include Next to Normal, Water for Elephants, and Sweeney Todd.
1. I chose to study English to strengthen my writing skills and share meaningful stories with audiences. Everyone has a story to share, be it a personal blog post or advertising the next big product. Writing can help bring that story to life!
2. My favorite part about being an English Major is the classes! Each English class feels like a book club with my friends where we learn to develop our own writing styles through classic and modern literature. I also loved attending my first Sigma Tau Delta Convention and making new writer friends.
3. The last book I read was Beach Read by Emily Henry.
4. My favorite book is The Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo.
4. A book character I identify with is Annabeth Chase from Rick Riordan‘s Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
6. The last book I bought was House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, but I haven’t read it yet.
7. My favorite book to movie adaptation is BBC’s Sherlock. I grew up an Arthur Conan Doyle fan and absolutely adored the modern spin on the series!
8. I’m both a reader and a writer.
9. My favorite style of writing is fictional prose or poetry. I typically lean into the “realistic fiction” genre, but I can’t say no to a good sci-fi or fantasty short story.
10. My go-to children’s books are Christmas in Camelot from the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne or the Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter.
11. My favorite childhood memory is post-soccer trips with my parents to get soft-serve ice cream and visit Barnes and Noble.
12. Growing up, I was sure I would be an award-winning musician.
13. My first job was a writing tutor for first-year composition courses.
14. My dream job is a marketing or public relations role within the publishing industry, focusing heavily on children’s and young adult literature.
15. I like to spend my free time experimenting in the kitchen, playing tabletop roleplaying games with my friends, and writing the occasional fanfic.
16. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is a tour of the United Kingdom—especially Cecil Court in London.

17. The literary place I’d most like to visit is The Crow Club in Ketterdam (from Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows).
18. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in an above-bookstore flat in London or a cabin in Vermont.
19. If I was stranded on a desert island, the three things I would bring with me are a frying pan, solar-powered flashlight, and a tent.
20. What is one song you could listen to on repeat? Either “The Challenge” from EPIC the Musical or “L’Ultima Notte” by Josh Groban.
21. The best gift I ever received was the Sherlock Chronicles by Steve Tribe. This behind-the-scenes guide has a special place in my heart because it re-ignited my love of writing in high school.
22. The best gift I’ve ever given is a photo album I gave to my friend as a graduation gift with most of our college adventures together.

23. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up either homemade stuffed shells or brownies.
24. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be the Trenette Al Pesto dish from Disney’s Luca.
25. The author (dead or alive) I’d most like to spend a day with is Leigh Bardugo! I’d also love to pick the brain of screenwriter Steven Moffat.
