Sigma Tau Delta’s Winter Awards Cycle will be open January 12 – February 2, 2026. During the 2026 winter cycle, applications are being accepted for the Penguin Random House Internship Priority Consideration, the Sigma Tau Delta Journal Summer Internship, the Summer Program Scholarship, Lambda Literary Internships, and the Girton Lifelong Learning Program. Penguin Random House Internship Priority Consideration
Paid internship opportunities are available from Penguin Random House to provide interested undergraduate and graduate student members of Sigma Tau Delta with experience in the publishing industry.
Fall 2026/Spring 2027 Internship
The Penguin Random House internship program offers candidates the opportunity to work in the Penguin Random House Adult & Children’s divisions, attend weekly professional development programming, and learn about the world of publishing. This program is intended to provide opportunities for racially/ethnically underrepresented groups in the publishing industry. Active chapter members interested in learning about the world of marketing in book publishing are encouraged to apply. No prior publishing experience is required.
Interns will work remote for 21 hours per week at a pay rate of $20/hr. Intern schedules will be flexible to account for candidates who may be located in a variety of time zones. PRH offers internships in such areas as Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Sales, Art/Design, Legal, Book Making, Finance, and Subrights. Internship offerings vary from cycle to cycle and will be announced by PRH when they open their application portal.
To apply for priority consideration, applicants must apply BOTH to Sigma Tau Delta’s AwardSpring platform AND Penguin Random House’s Application portal by the following due dates:
- Application to Sigma Tau Delta for priority consideration: February 2 at 4 p.m. CT
- Full application to Penguin Random House: TBA
The fall/spring internship is a single internship opportunity offered to an individual student who will work ten weeks in the fall and then an additional ten weeks in the spring. Internship dates will be announced by PRH when they open their application portal.

Sigma Tau Delta Journal Summer Internship
A paid, remote, three-month internship opportunity is available with the Sigma Tau Delta Journals. This opportunity will provide a minimum of two Sigma Tau Delta student members (undergraduate or graduate) with editorial and publication experience. These interns will work with the Managing Editor on the publications, from May 15 until August 15, averaging 10 hours per week. The interns may complete this internship from any location, so long as they have reliable internet access. Each intern will be paid $600 per month for three months.
Job Summary
Under the Managing Editor’s direction interns will:
- Read and evaluate submissions
- Edit accepted submissions for publication
- Communicate regularly via email and/or video conference with the Managing Editor
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Strong work ethic
- Editorial experience
- Computer literacy
Requirements

Summer Program Scholarship
The Summer Program Scholarship is for active undergraduate members, including seniors who are about to graduate at the time of application. The scholarship provides up to $2,000 for the purpose of attending a special summer program in the student’s home country that furthers the applicant’s engagement with Sigma Tau Delta’s mission. Qualifying summer programs must be at least three weeks in length and no longer than three months. Examples of eligible areas of study include accelerated teacher certification programs or other special summer coursework (not at the student’s home institution, but in their home country), publishing institutes, and professionalization opportunities such as writer’s residency programs. Applicants should demonstrate academic scholarship and chapter service and must explain the relevance of their summer program to fostering their engagement in the discipline of English, including literature, language, writing, or literacy.

Lambda Literary Internships
Sigma Tau Delta has developed a wonderful partnership with Lambda Literary. We are excited to announce a unique opportunity for LGBTQ+* members of the Sigma Tau Delta community to intern with Lambda, the nation’s leading LGBTQ+ literary organization. The Program Interns will work with the prestigious Lambda Literary Awards (Lammys) or Writers Retreat remotely for 15 hours per week. These internships are ideal for individuals passionate about LGBTQ+ literature and eager to gain experience in program management, communications, and event planning.

Lifelong Learning Summer Program at Girton College
We are thrilled to announce an exciting partnership between Sigma Tau Delta and the University of Cambridge, UK, offering access to Lifelong Learning Summer Courses in the arts and humanities at the prestigious Girton College, Cambridge to Sigma Tau Delta alumni members and Chapter Advisors.
Girton College, founded in 1869, was Britain’s first residential college for the degree level education of women. It opened its doors to men in 1979 and has remained a pioneer of inclusive excellence. With its historic architecture, distinguished faculty, and commitment to intellectual rigor, it offers a rich environment in which to learn.
These immersive courses are designed to enrich academic and professional growth while offering a unique opportunity to experience the inspiring environment of Cambridge.
One applicant will be awarded the Simone J. Billings Girton College Lifelong Learning Summer Program Award for Advisors, $1,000 to defray part of the costs of attending the Girton program.
